I actually received COD MW2 through the post on the 6th of November from Tesco Direct, way early for the launch date of the 10th!!!! (xmas came early!)
I rang up Activision in the UK and asked if would be penalised for playing it early, i.e. would Xbox Live deem my (legal copy might I add) to be a fake as I would be playing it before the release date. I received a phone call from a representative at Activision (after leaving a VM) and whilst they appreciated my honesty about receiving the game early asked me to either not play it or unplug Xbox live so it cannot be detected.
I did this and unplugged my Xbox live connection, however temptation got the better of me and eventually I hooked it up to Xbox Live, I was stunned to find over 20k people have been playing it online!!!!
I completed the game have over 700 acheivement points and am well into the multiplayer now!
In a word this game is mind blowlingly good no small feat might I add.

Why go to all the trouble of calling them, have them tell you "No" and then go ahead and play it online anyhow?

Funny how companies do that. We received a Microsoft Zune here at the office for review, but were told not to plug it into the Zune Marketplace before a specific date. Of course we tried anyways. They had locked it out via a software mod on the Zune HD player itself so we couldn't access the store. Then on the launch date, Microsoft sent out a software upgrade which removed the block. Kind of annoying to have a device weeks before it's released and not be able to review all of it's features.
At least you were able to play COD online before the launch date. Looks like an amazing game.

I can't wait to get my grubby hands on this game. My wife will hate me for a while...
